POKOTABI / Nomaru
のまる -静かめ酒場-
Situated near Ochanomizu and Yushima, Nomaru offers an extensive selection of chilled and warmed sake alongside carefully crafted seasonal seafood plates in an intimate counter setting.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
True to its billing as a quiet pub, Nomaru, situated on the 2th floor of an Ochanomizu building, is designed for slowly savoring the interplay of sake and seasonal snacks rather than loud revelry. Beyond the door lies a calm interior with an atmosphere well suited to drinking alone or in a small group.
The main draw is the extensive lineup of sake, spanning crisp chilled options to varieties that open up with gentle warming. Pours can be ordered by the half-measure (han-go), making it simple for enthusiasts to compare different labels side by side. When the handwritten menu feels overwhelming, consulting the owner yields tailored recommendations to match the evening's dishes at just the right serving temperature.
Food centers on seafood sourced directly by the proprietor, prepared into thoughtful seasonal small plates. Alongside sashimi and shime-saba (cured mackerel), uncommon catches make occasional appearances, complemented by miso-cured bites and other savory accompaniments that draw out the character of rice wine. Leaving both food and drinks to the host creates an experience akin to an unhurried kappō meal.
Portions are modestly sized, meant to be appreciated bite by bite between sips. Because counter seating is limited, reserving in advance for dinner is strongly advised. Note that payment is settled strictly in cash.
